Reading Nutritional Information on Food Labels

To know which foods are the right ones for you, you need to be able to interpret and understand information displayed on the labels of food products, particularly the Nutrition Information Panel. The Nutrition Information Panel gives information on kilojoules, total carbohydrates (including sugars), protein, total fat (including saturated fat) and sodium. Other nutrients, such as fibre, calcium and iron may be listed if a claim appears on the product’s label (e.g. ‘high in fibre’).
