Dietary Fibre

Look for products that are high in dietary fibre. Fibre content does not always appear on the Nutrition Information Panel, but if it is included it will appear beside the heading ‘DIETARY FIBRE’. Find the amount of dietary fibre listed in the column headed ‘PER 100g’. Look for foods with more fibre per 100 grams.

Claims about fibre on the labels of foods can give you an idea about how much fibre they contain. Products that state ‘very high in fibre’ or ‘excellent source’ contain at least 6 grams of fibre in one serve of the food. ‘High fibre’ or ‘good source of fibre’ means the product contains at least 3 grams of fibre per serve; ‘provides fibre’ or ‘source of fibre’ indicates a fibre content of at least 1.5 grams per serve.
